The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive deals with the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment. The Directive encourages increasing reuse and recycling and the reduction of WEEE going to landfill. Dunn Bros is an accredited WEEE processor.
The End-of-Live Vehicles (ELV) Directive deals with the waste that arises from the 2.1 million vehicles that are scrapped in the UK each year. Under the ELV regulations, vehicle manufacturers must provide the owners of end-of-life vehicles with a free and accessible take-back network for qualifying vehicles. The regulations also set rising reuse, recycling and recovery targets, restrict the use of hazardous substances in new vehicles and replacement parts, and require accurate record-keeping. As shareholders of Cartakeback.com, Dunn Bros supports a network of over 250 conveniently located Authorised Treatment Facilities and take-back points across the UK.
All Dunn Bros employees are fully qualified and certificated in health and safety issues. Health and safety training is a regular and continuing process.
All sites are covered by radioactive scrap detectors. The detectors protect both employees and customers. They ensure that processed scrap metal is never contaminated by exposure to radioactive material.
We audit our health and safety performance and regularly review our procedures to make sure that our sites stay safe for everyone - employees, visitors and customers.
The Packaging Waste Directive requires businesses with an annual turnover of more than £2 million and handling at least 50 tonnes of packaging a year to recover 66% of all packaging waste rising to 70% by 2010. Recycling targets will increase from 29% to 33.5% for aluminium and by 56% to 59.5% for steel by 2010.
Dunn Bros is able to help obligated companies comply with packaging regulations, as we are accredited by the Environment Agency to issue Packaging Export Recovery Notes (PERNs) against the proportion of metal packaging sold to overseas smelters.
